Launched in 2025, the SkillShed was Leeds Wood Recycling’s hands-on training programme, funded by NPower the project turns waste timber into opportunity. Through free courses, participants learned practical woodworking skills while being part of something bigger — reducing waste, building confidence, and connecting with others.
Our bike sheds are a direct product of this work. Built by the SkillShed graduates, who have shared their knowledge and skills with our volunteering community. Each one is made with care, using reclaimed timber and real, developing skills. When you buy a shed, you’re not just getting a durable, well-made product — you’re supporting skills development and community-led production.
The impact goes further. The programme helps us recycle more timber on site, creates new pathways for volunteers and staff, and strengthens our long-term sustainability through a growing product range.

This item in constructed as a complete unit. If you need it in “flat pack” form, let us know and we will ensure you have instructions on how to reassemble it at home. Lead making time 4-6 weeks. Leeds Wood Recycling is a Community Interest Company, a not for profit organisation that aims to benefit our local community. As a social enterprise our mission is to have a positive impact both environmentally and socially. Our core purpose is to grow people and promote reuse, this mindset is the key objective when we are designing products for our shop. Our social and environmental mission is to make a range of products that upskill our volunteers at the same time as reusing and repurposing the most commonly overlooked ‘low valued’ timber.
We foster a collaborative peer-to-peer community where volunteers teach and learn from each other, honing their skills while we ensure quality control on all products before they reach you.
